About our Lodge
The Great Sand Dunes Lodge, located at the entrance of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, nestles at the foothills of the Front Range of the Rockies. Set at an altitude of 8100 feet, its backyard, facing the Sangre de Christo, is filled with pinion pines on the sloping range that gradually rise up to the majestic 14,000 feet peaks.
A hiker’s paradise, pristine shimmering lakes reward the efforts of those who make it to the top. To the West lies the vast expanse of the San Luis Valley “where the buffaloes roam, and the deer and the antelope play.” And beyond that in the distant horizon are the San Juan Mountains. Sitting out on the patio facing the west, spectacular sunsets lure the amateur and professional photographer. However, the main attraction here is still the ever present Great Sand Dunes that look like a painting with the backdrop of mountains with jagged peaks.
The lodge is a favorite spot for photographers, hikers, bikers, and the star gazers.
At the lodge, we provide our guests with comfortable lodging. We have three types of rooms to suit different needs, the Standard, the Deluxe and the Deluxe Plus rooms. You can park your car right in front of your room. Friendly staff are around to suggest local attractions or help plan your route. The weather and Park programs are updated and posted daily for your convenience. We serve hot beverages in the morning and at other times, if requested. A wholesome continental breakfast is served in March, April, and October when the restaurant, independent of us, is closed.
Relax in your room after a long day of exploring the Great Sand Dunes and other attractions in the San Luis Valley, or just sit out on your patio watching brilliant sunsets while hummingbirds entertain you in the summer months.
Enjoy a picnic lunch or cookout in gas grills and watch the fabulous view after a day at the Dunes!
Unwinding in our heated indoor pool is the perfect end to a perfect day.
